7 Tips for Recycling and reusing at Christmas

As economical and environmental factors become more important in our lives it’s important to be conscious in all aspects of our lives and Christmas is a fantastic time for this.

So much is wasted and purchased almost for no reason at Christmas that recycling and reusing is a must.

Here are 10 tips to get you started.

1. Save your wrapping paper to reuse on other holidays or even next christmas.

2. Wrap your presents in recycled brown packing paper or newspaper rather than buying new expensive wrapping paper. Both of these options can look great with a nice bow.

3. Keep all the good size boxes from presents, food and anything else. Flatten them and store them for later use. They could be used if a friend is moving, to put next years presents in and much much more.

4. If you have saved scrap paper and things from previous holidays then get the kids to create the decorations from this. Even buying recycled colored papers and materials will save you money on ornaments and decorations.

5. Buy a christmas tree with roots and set up a priced place in your garden or the garden of a friend. This will save you money over years and is a great way to stop impacting negatively on the environment. If your tree cannot be recycled make sure you take it to a tree recycle center.

6. Make sure you take your own reusable bags when christmas shopping. Imagine if every shopper can save just one bag. Even this could save thousands of tons of plastic every year!

7. Keep all the scraps from your vegetables and food and make sure you turn them into compost. Composting will help you grow food and plants in your garden for much less and is a great way to return nutrients back to the earth.

8. Try and arrange to see family in as big a bulk as possible. If everyone goes to one home rather than everyone driving around then you should all save a nice amount of gas and have less environmental impact.

9. Keep all your glass bottles for return to the store rather than throwing them in the recycling. This way you will get some cash back and the bottles will be reused by their respective companies.

10. Keep your Christmas cards and use them to make decorations and new christmas cards for next year or postcards.
